Managing analytics for hundreds of websites: a portfolio playbook

How agencies, publishers and domain investors can monitor traffic across hundreds or thousands of websites without drowning in dashboards.

Most analytics tools are designed for one website at a time. That's fine for a single company site, but painful if you run fifty client sites, a network of niche blogs, or a portfolio of hundreds of domains you're developing or selling.

The portfolio questions

  • Which sites are growing, and which have quietly stalled?
  • Did any site suddenly drop to zero, which often means a broken deploy, an expired certificate or a DNS problem?
  • Which domains get organic type-in traffic worth developing?
  • Where should we spend this month's content budget?

Design your workspace for scanning

At portfolio scale, you scan before you analyse. StaTrak's sites view shows every site as a compact card with visitors, the change against the previous period, a 30-day sparkline and live visitors. Sort by change to find the biggest gainers and losers, or switch to the table view to compare hundreds of rows at once.

Organise with groups

Put sites into groups such as Clients, Content, Ecommerce or For sale, and filter the overview by group. Favourite the dozen sites you check daily so they stay at the top.

Add sites in bulk

Paste a list of domains, one per line, and StaTrak creates them all at once. Every site uses the same one-line script with its own data-domain attribute, so you can add it to a shared template or a parking page and roll it out across the portfolio.

A weekly routine that takes ten minutes

  1. Open the portfolio overview set to the last 7 days.
  2. Sort by change, lowest first. Investigate any site down more than 50%.
  3. Sort by change, highest first. Check what drove the growth and do more of it.
  4. Filter to sites with zero visitors to find broken installs.
  5. Review search keywords on your top five sites for content ideas.

Know your visitors. Keep their privacy.
