7 benefits of cookieless analytics: count the visitors who say no to cookies

Cookie banners hide a big share of your visitors from cookie-based analytics. Here's what cookieless analytics counts instead, why the data is more complete, and what it can't do.

Every time a visitor clicks “Reject all” on a cookie banner, cookie-based analytics loses them. Many more never click anything, and they're usually lost too. The result is a dashboard that quietly undercounts your traffic, your best pages and your campaigns. Cookieless analytics takes a different approach: it counts visits without storing anything on the visitor's device and without collecting personal data. Here's what that changes for you.

Three panels: all visitors; cookie-based analytics counting only those who accepted; cookieless analytics counting every visit anonymously
Cookie-based analytics only sees the visitors who accepted. Cookieless analytics counts every visit, anonymously.

1. You see the visitors who reject cookies

This is the big one. Because StaTrak doesn't set cookies or identify anyone, there's nothing for a visitor to consent to for analytics, so rejecting the cookie banner doesn't remove them from your numbers. Your visitor counts, top pages and sources reflect everyone who arrived, not just the people who clicked “Accept”.

2. Often no cookie banner at all

In the EU and UK, consent rules mainly apply to storing or reading information on a visitor's device, like cookies. Analytics that does neither, and doesn't collect personal data, is in many cases not something you need a banner for. That means a cleaner first impression, fewer clicks between visitors and your content, and better conversion. Check with your own legal advisor for your situation, especially if you also run ads or other trackers.

3. Numbers that don't shrink when browsers change

Browsers keep tightening cookie rules: Safari limits how long some cookies live, and third-party cookies are disappearing. Analytics that depends on cookies loses accuracy with every change. Cookieless counting doesn't depend on any of it, so a returning visitor next month isn't misread as a new one because a cookie expired.

4. Privacy you can explain in one sentence

StaTrak never stores IP addresses or browser fingerprints. Each day, a visitor is counted using a one-way hash that includes a random value which is deleted the next day, so visits can't be linked across days or back to a person. “We count visits anonymously and don't use cookies” is something you can put in your privacy policy and stand behind.

5. Faster pages

The StaTrak script is a few kilobytes, loads with defer, and never blocks your page. There's no consent manager to load first and no tag manager in between. Lighter pages rank and convert better.

6. A dashboard you can read in a minute

Cookieless analytics focuses on what most sites need: visitors, pageviews, top pages, sources and campaigns, countries, regions and cities, devices and time on page. Everything fits on one screen, for one site or a thousand.

7. Room for more than numbers

Because the data is anonymous, StaTrak can add useful things around it without changing your privacy story: uptime and SSL alerts for every site, and an optional feedback widget where visitors report bugs or send ideas, with the page they were on.

What cookieless analytics doesn't do

  • Follow individual people across days, devices or websites. If you need user-level funnels tied to accounts, you'll want product analytics inside your logged-in app.
  • Retarget visitors with ads. There's no identifier to retarget with.
  • Guarantee that every visit is counted: ad blockers and some privacy tools can still block analytics scripts.

For most websites, blogs, shops and portfolios, those trade-offs are an easy choice: more complete numbers, a better experience for visitors, and nothing personal to protect.
